Worry Is Misuse of the Imagination

Synchronicity. Serendipity. A Happy Co-ink-ee-dink (that is coincidence in normal speak). Kismet. The Wu Way. Be-ing in Alignment. Staying in the moment. Tuned in, Tapped in, & Turned on!
All of those words and phrases essentially refer to the same happenstance: when you choose to live your life to the fullest, good things come your way. It is closely tied to what is known as The Law of Attraction. The Law of Attraction simply states that whatever you think about most in your life you will draw to yourself. I first learned about this phenomenon when a dear friend showed me some Esther “Abraham” Hicks videos on YouTube (I started with the Oprah interview). Give yourself the greatest gift you could ever give yourself, search YouTube for Esther or Abraham Hicks and click on one! (They also have published a number of books).
Think of your brain as a radio transmitter that can broadcast and receive. When you turn to the correct frequency you are tuning in to what you want. When you are unsure and depressed all you can project and take in is static and white noise. It is not always easy to break these habitual and addictive thought patterns. It takes tons of practice and diligence to avert them. Especially for someone like myself who gets really down in the long, grey, cold, dark, despairing winters in Wisconsin.
Worry is misuse of the imagination. Worry is wishing for what you don't want. No one ever got what they wanted by worrying it into fruition. Worrying, sadness, greed, hatred, and jealousy are backed by powerful emotions and if you give into them they start to breed. It is a terrible cycle to try and break.
If you stay open to the idea, everywhere you go you can find clues from the Universe that only you can pick up on. They can show you if you are on the right track. For example, I am recording a new album called SONGBIRD in California with Joe Craven. As I was driving to Fargo for a gig my “monkey mind” kicked into overdrive and I started to worry. As I started worrying my thoughts became overwhelmed with ideas of how I was going to pay for the new album, how I was going to pay for my recent surgery to remove malignant melanoma from my arm, how my wife and kids would get along without me for two weeks whilst I took the train to California because I couldn’t fly in an airplane due to a hole in my eardrum caused by an ear infection… blah, blah, blah, Blah, BLAH!

I caught myself worrying and made a conscious decision to stop right then and there. As I did a car with Wisconsin plates passed me with personalized license plates that read, “SONGBIRD”.
Another example of the universe communicating it’s reassurance to me was on my way to the train station when leaving for the recording studio in California. I literally turned on the radio and a show on public radio was highlighting the Spring songbird migration. I was tuned in.
The night before, while I was sitting on the pooper, I randomly picked up an Energy Cooperative magazine that had a featured article on birding in Alma, WI. Here’s where it gets crazy! The night I graduated high school I ate some hallucinogenic mushrooms as sort of a vision quest and a rite of passage into adulthood. As I lay on the grass looking up at the stars in the wee hours of the morning I noticed that the stars started to move. They rearranged themselves into a word. ALMA. I had no idea what it meant. The trip wore off and life went on. 5 years later I was out birding with a friend near Lake Superior and he mentioned that his wife was named Alma. I asked if he knew what it meant and he told me it was Spanish for Soul. My Soul was in the Stars!

I have read a lot of books on the Law of Attraction and have tried and failed many times to get where I Am. Learning to fail and bounce back has been a massive and sometimes very unpleasant lesson. An even harder lesson is putting my trust in the universe. There is no guarantee that I will have a successful crowd-funding campaign. Many people are hesitant to contribute because of the risk they take in believing that I can do it. It’s an All or nothing deal.
I believe we can do it. We are on this journey together!
When I think about taking the risk I get scared. What scares me more is living the rest of my Life knowing I didn’t go for it. To live a life of quiet desperation is not desirable.
“If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours” -Henry David Thoreau
When I think about that and how hard I’ve worked to get to this point I Am overjoyed and filled with pride. When you know what you want and you are sure of who you are the Universe has no choice but to conspire to make it happen because all thoughts, if thought frequently and intensely enough, create reality. Be True to you and you can follow through on what you do.
I choose to be actively engaged in the fruition of my creative purpose in service to the expansion of evolutionary consciousness. At least, that’s what I believe. I am putting that theory to the test by leaving my worries at the train station and trusting that all signs point in the direction I’m going. If I fail, it was not for a lack of trying. If I don’t succeed, I will die trying.
Addendum, May 13 (one day after I posted this BLOG):
We start in the studio today and I just realized it's International Migratory Bird Day. Tweet Tweet!
